SUMMARY:AI Is Changing the Inbox\, Are Your Emails Ready?
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:  \nAI is already reshaping how emails are delivered\, summarized\, and prioritized—especially in Gmail. That means your members may be seeing a version of your email before they even open it. In this session\, we’ll break down how inboxes are changing\, what it means for associations\, and how to adjust your email strategy now. You’ll walk away with simple\, practical ways to improve your email structure\, content\, and design so your emails stay visible\, relevant\, and effective. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \nUnderstand how AI is changing the inbox—including how emails are being filtered\, prioritized\, and even summarized before members read them.\n \nIdentify the common email mistakes that hurt engagement today (and will be amplified by AI)\, based on real examples from association email audits.\n \nApply simple design and content best practices that make emails easier for both members and inbox algorithms to understand and act on.\n \nDevelop a practical checklist to future-proof your email strategy and keep your messages visible\, relevant\, and effective moving forward.\n \n

SUMMARY:The M&A Blind Spot: What Association Leaders Need to Know About Valuation Before It’s Too Late
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:  \nIndustry consolidation is reshaping the landscape for associations and nonprofits. Member organizations are merging\, being acquired\, or disappearing — and with them\, the dues revenue\, advertising base\, and vendor ecosystems that associations depend on. Yet most association executives are watching this happen without the tools to understand\, quantify\, or respond to it strategically. This session draws on over a decade of strategic valuation and market intelligence work across Fortune 1000 companies\, private equity portfolios\, and nonprofit mergers to give association leaders a practical\, thought-leadership grounded understanding of how M&A really works — from the wide range of valuation outcomes that make deals unpredictable\, to the due diligence failures that sink them\, to the fundamentally different rules that apply when nonprofits merge versus when for-profits transact. Whether your members are the ones consolidating or your association is considering its own strategic combination\, this session will elevate your ability to lead through it. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \nUnderstand why industry consolidation directly impacts association membership\, revenue\, and strategic positioning — and how to account for it before it becomes a crisis\n \nLearn the difference between valuation as a financial exercise and valuation as a strategic decision-making tool for boards\, mergers\, and capital allocation\n \nIdentify the most common due diligence failures that cause mergers and acquisitions to underperform — and what responsible leadership looks like on both the buy and sell side\n \nRecognize when your organization is “too late” in planning for sellability\, merger readiness\, or consolidation response — and the minimum viable steps to course-correct\n \nApply a practical framework for assessing whether to buy\, build\, merge\, or find a niche — whether your organization is a for-profit\, nonprofit\, or trade association

SUMMARY:Insourcing vs. Outsourcing IT: Not An Either/Or Decision
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:  \nBetween insourcing\, outsourcing\, and every possible hybrid configuration in between\, it can be tough to know which IT management strategy would serve your organization best.\n \nOptimal Networks has spent 35 years helping associations design and refine their approach to IT management—including cases where we’ve “lost” business to internal hires. We’ve seen organizations thrive when their model is the right fit\, and we’ve seen the costly disruptions that follow when it isn’t.\n \nThis session is designed to help set your association down that first path.\n  \nLearning Objectives: \nCategorize the various components of IT management\n \nExamine the operational risks and opportunities tied to each component\n \nCompare common management models: insourced\, outsourced\, or co-managed IT\n \nOutline key variables to consider when choosing the right model for your association\n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:From “What We Do” to “Why Members Care”: Building a Stronger Association Value Proposition
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:  \n\nAssociations offer meaningful value to their members\, but that value is not always easy to  explain\, or act on. When messaging is too broad\, benefits feel disconnected\, and teams describe the organization in different ways\, members may miss the very reasons they should engage\, renew\, attend\, or participate.\n \nWhen your audience\, value\, and strategy are not clearly defined\, communication can become too broad. Teams may describe the organization in different ways. Member benefits may feel disconnected. Marketing may become more focused on activity than clarity.\n \nIn this session\, Cheri Quinn and Emily Youngblood will share a practical brand strategy framework associations can use to clarify who they serve\, what they offer\, why it matters\, and how they deliver value differently. Using the same approach Mercury Creative Group uses when building brand guides with clients\, they will walk through how to write a value proposition and strategy statement that support stronger messaging\, better internal alignment\, and more meaningful member engagement.\n \nAttendees will leave with practical language frameworks they can begin using right away to make their association’s value clearer\, more specific\, and easier for members to understand.\n\n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDefine a primary audience so messaging is focused on the members who matter most to your organization’s growth\, engagement\, and impact.\n \nWrite a value proposition that clearly communicates who you serve\, what they need\, what you offer\, why it matters\, and how your organization is different.\n \nCreate a strategy statement that gives your team a simple internal guide for decision-making\, marketing\, and member experience.\n \nApply brand strategy elements as messaging guardrails for emails\, website content\, event promotion\, membership campaigns\, and internal alignment.\n\n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:The Mindset Shift: Migrating from Legacy "AMS Thinking" to AI-Ready "CRM Thinking"
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO 20! \nRESERVE YOUR SPOT! \nCourse Description:  \nFor years\, associations have operated under “AMS thinking”—relying on rigid\, all-in-one Association Management Systems to manage member data in structured silos. As member expectations evolve and artificial intelligence redefines operational capabilities\, transitioning to Salesforce offers a powerful alternative. However\, success requires more than just new software. It demands a fundamental shift to “CRM thinking.” This session is designed to guide association leaders through this paradigm shift and prepare them for a successful migration in an AI-dominated landscape.\n \nWe will focus on understanding the critical architectural differences between legacy databases and a relationship-focused platform.\n \nWe will specifically analyze how “CRM thinking” unlocks native\, predictive AI capabilities (such as member churn prediction and personalized engagement paths) that are impossible to achieve within the rigid\, siloed data structures of “AMS thinking.” Additionally\, we will demystify the Salesforce ecosystem\, helping you evaluate implementation partners and determine the right configuration of Salesforce tools (such as the Nonprofit Cloud) to meet your association’s specific operational needs.\n  \nLearning Objectives: \nContrast the operational and architectural differences between legacy “AMS thinking” and a relationship-centric\, AI-ready “CRM thinking” approach.\n \nEvaluate implementation partners and determine the right configuration of Salesforce tools (such as the Nonprofit Cloud and Einstein AI) to meet your association’s specific operational needs.\n \nFormulate a structured vetting process to select a qualified Salesforce implementation partner who understands association workflows.\n \nDesign a high-level roadmap for aligning legacy business processes with Salesforce’s flexible automation and predictive intelligence capabilities.\n \n

SUMMARY:Till System Death Do Us Part: Lasting Partnerships
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:  \nSystem churn drains budgets\, burns out staff\, and frustrates members. This session shows how to cultivate vendor partnerships that last\, from pinpointing the real problem and requirements\, to choosing a true partner\, to sustaining the relationship long after launch. Participants will explore why implementations go off the rails\, how to establish governance and routines that keep both sides aligned\, and what to do if the partnership falters. Through real scenarios and clear checklists\, participants will leave with a practical roadmap to avoid “shiny object” distractions and maximize the value of their systems. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \nDiagnose the root causes of system churn in their own organization and vendor relationships.\n \nDesign a simple governance and communication framework to align internal stakeholders and vendor partners before\, during\, and after implementation.\n \nApply tools (scorecards\, health checks\, and structured conversations) to repair strained vendor relationships and extend the life of existing systems.\n \n

SUMMARY:Using Pipeline Reports to Navigate Funding and Improve Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:  \nFor nonprofit organizations\, a robust and well-managed funding pipeline is the lifeblood of long-term sustainability. This session provides a deep dive into the creation\, analysis\, and strategic application of pipeline reports\, which track and project incoming revenue from all sources\, including grants\, major gifts\, individual donors\, and contracts. Participants will learn how to transition from reactive fundraising to proactive financial forecasting by establishing clear pipeline stages\, accurately estimating close rates\, and identifying potential gaps in future funding. We will cover how to use this data not only to manage the development team but also to inform the annual budget\, guide strategic decisions about program expansion\, and communicate a reliable vision of financial health to the board. Mastering pipeline reporting is key to ensuring continuous operations and achieving mission impact. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDesign a Pipeline: Structure a comprehensive funding pipeline that incorporates various revenue streams (grants\, individual giving\, etc.) into a single\, cohesive reporting system.\n \nForecast Revenue: Utilize pipeline metrics\, such as close rates and average gift size\, to generate accurate and reliable revenue forecasts for the current and subsequent fiscal years.\n \nIdentify Funding Gaps: Analyze pipeline reports to proactively identify potential shortfalls or high-risk areas in future funding and develop contingency plans.\n \nCommunicate Sustainability: Leverage pipeline reports to effectively communicate the organization’s current funding trajectory and long-term sustainability outlook to the board\, staff\, and external partners.\n\n \n
