Enhancing the Treasurer Relationship and Collaboration
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Serving as a nonprofit organization’s Treasurer can be a rewarding and often life-changing experience. The first year of serving as a Treasurer will set the stage and directly influence opportunities for engagement, impact, visibility, quality of experience, and advancement. Nonprofit organizations need to recognize that the first year of Treasurer service will go by quickly and to ensure success for both the organization and the Treasurer, special emphasis must be placed on optimizing the front-end Treasurer experience and connections to senior management, staff, and the Board.
Treasurers often step into their roles with few expectations and no established goals to guide them. This often leads to a start slow and missed opportunities for engagement, which can result in negative impressions that are difficult to reverse. However, with a little planning and preparation the appearance of just being “along for the ride” can be avoided.
This presentation aims to help nonprofit organizations and their Treasurers to set basic goals and develop realistic expectations for success and having impact during their time as Treasurer. We will discuss actions and tactics to get Treasurer service off to a fast start, strategies for how to be a more impactful Treasurer and work with the finance committee, and how to end Treasurer service on a high note enhancing continuity and sustainability.
