Beyond the Post-Event Survey: Turning Attendee Feedback Into Event Intelligence With SMS, Voice-To-Text, and AI

October 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

Course Description:

Most associations ask attendees for feedback after an event. The problem is that traditional post-event surveys often compress a complex attendee experience into ratings, checkboxes, and short written comments. You learn that the conference scored a 4.2 out of 5. But why? What did attendees actually experience? What frustrated them? What surprised them? What will they remember? And, most importantly, what should you do differently next time?

This session explores a different way to think about post-event feedback: not simply as survey data, but as event intelligence. We’ll examine why many traditional feedback efforts underperform, what makes attendee input genuinely useful, and how new approaches including SMS, voice-to-text, open-ended prompts, and AI analysis can help associations uncover themes, sentiment, emotional context, friction points, and practical recommendations.

We’ll also explore an important shift in question design: moving beyond asking attendees to rate an experience and toward prompts that help them describe the experience.

Throughout the session, attendees will participate in a series of practical exercises demonstrating how small changes in the way feedback is requested can produce dramatically different levels of insight. The session will include:

* An “old survey vs. better prompt” group exercise

* Audience discussion about what event teams wish they knew after their events

* Live reframing of common post-event survey questions

* Examples showing how ratings and natural-language feedback reveal different things

* A simple framework for collecting and analyzing more useful post-event feedback

* A look at how AI can help turn qualitative feedback into themes, sentiment, patterns, and actionable next steps Attendees will leave with a practical approach they can use to rethink their next post-event feedback process, regardless of the survey or event technology they currently use.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize the limitations of traditional post-event surveys and distinguish between feedback that measures satisfaction and feedback that explains the attendee experience.

Design stronger post-event feedback prompts by considering timing, question design, response format, and the context in which attendees are asked to respond.

Explain how emerging approaches such as SMS, voice-to-text, and AI analysis can turn qualitative attendee feedback into usable event intelligence, including themes, sentiment, friction points, and practical recommendations.
