Conflicts of Interest in Associations and Nonprofits

Course Description: 

This session will address potential and actual conflicts of interest in nonprofit organizations, with specific focus on the three IRS classifications most common to the association marketspace. Knowing how to recognize, manage, and avoid damage from conflicts of interest while still operating an effective organization is the goal of this presentation. Whether you represent an association, a social welfare organization, or a public charity, this session will address conflicts from your organization’s perspective.

 

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to recognize and discuss the key features of conflicts of interest in nonprofit organizations, especially including associations.

Participants will become familiar with the differing regulatory treatment of conflicts in 501(c)(6), 501(c)(3), and 501(c)(4) organizations

Participants will become familiar with the key non-legal consequences of conflicts of interest

Participants will learn key features of a management plan to address conflicts of interest
