The Modern Audit-Ready Association

Course Description:
The annual audit doesn’t have to be a stressful, time-consuming process. In this session, we’ll explore what it means for associations to be truly “audit-ready” in today’s environment. Drawing on real-world experience preparing nonprofit and association clients for their audits (and having conducted audits in a past life as well!), we’ll discuss common challenges organizations face, from reconciling revenue and grants to documenting internal controls, and share practical strategies for building strong processes throughout the year. Participants will also see how technology and modern accounting practices can streamline audit preparation, reduce risk, and create efficiencies that benefit both management and the board. You’ll leave with a roadmap to transform your audit from a once-a-year scramble into a tool that efficiently demonstrates financial health.
Learning Objectives:
Understand what it means to be “audit-ready”: Learn the key practices that reduce last-minute surprises and ensure your organization is prepared for an external audit.
Identify common audit pain points and how to prevent them: Explore areas like revenue recognition, grant reporting, deferred revenue, reconciliations, and internal controls, and how to proactively address them.
Apply practical strategies to strengthen internal controls and documentation: Gain insights into building sustainable processes for approvals, segregation of duties, and audit trail maintenance.
