Association Ethics 101

Ethics is critical in a world with distrust and conflict. Adhering to an ethical code or a code of conduct can enhance trust in an association. This session will cover the basics of what association professionals should know about ethics. The ASAE Code of Conduct involves 7 different principles and their application to association professionals, consultants, and industry partners. In this session, we will discuss the difference between ethical, legal, and moral issues and their impact on decision-making. We will review three ethical challenges that association professionals may deal with in their regular work. Finally, we will explore at least 3 different strategies for managing ethical issues. This will include reviewing ASAE resources as well as an ABCD model for dealing with ethical issues.
