Understanding the Numbers
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
While Wall Street cares about the financial results of the big companies, we like to focus on understanding how not for profit organizations are faring in their finances. It is important to employees, future employees, board members, donors, and other stakeholders to understand the financial health of an organization. During this session we will review key items to review to gain insight into the finances of an organization including reviewing the IRS Form 990, the cash flow statement, and key ratios that will all provide insight into the overall financial health of the organization.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Identify key metrics used to evaluate the financial health of an organization.
Analyze the information available in the public IRS Form 990 to assess organizational financial performance.
Interpret cash flow statements to determine the financial position of an organization.
Evaluate key financial ratios and benchmarking data to make informed assessments of an organization’s financial health.
